These reports are followed in collaboration with Choctaw Children’s Advocacy Center, Choctaw Police Department, Children and Family Services Investigation and the MBCI Attorney General’s Office. An Indian Child Protection Referral must be completed and submitted to any one agency mentioned above.  All tribal members or citizens are encouraged to report any known or suspected child abuse or neglect at any time by calling 601-650-1777.  If in the case of an emergency, please call 601-656-5711. Assistance Services

The Assistance Services program provides direct resources to eligible Choctaw families by delivery of supplemental, supportive and/or financial services. The purpose of the Assistance Services Program is to provide help for those eligible individuals and families when their income and resources are insufficient to meet basic needs. It is not, however, the purpose and intent of these programs to create dependency on assistance in an ongoing and unlimited fashion which would promote chronic use. Assistance should be requested only after all the other services of the Tribe have been applied for and exhausted.

Children and Family Services Program

The Children and Family Services Program has established a focus on building a safe and healthy Choctaw Community with an emphasis on child welfare and preservation of families as the foundation for an overall safety and protection of all children and vulnerable populations as we assist in sustaining the well-being of all Choctaw families and traditions among our tribal communities. Our mission at Children and Family Services is to ensure the Choctaw people are provided with comprehensive and competent program services that are primarily focused on child welfare, family and child, cultural awareness, and community-based approach that ensures safety, well-being, and permanence for Choctaw children and families. All staff at Children and Family Services strive to deliver services professionally and with care in a safe environment to assure families can interact in an environment that helps with personal family issues. Children and Family Services hopes to make a difference in the path that a family will take while honoring their individual or personal differences. CFS investigates and monitors all aspects of child welfare without judgement and as a program will support to strengthen all families that want to heal, grow and prosper. Children and Family Services is committed to preserve and protect all Choctaw Families.

At times, Choctaw children are victims to abuse or neglect that result in temporary placement of foster care until the determination of safety is made to reunify with their parents or caregivers. Children and Family Services Foster Care Program consists of:
*Emergency – Homes that provide care for a single night or until a family foster home can be located.
*Respite – Homes that provide breaks for other foster families when the need arises.
*Traditional – Families who will provide care for extended periods of time.

Choctaw children need stable, safe, and loving homes that honor the Choctaw culture until the children can return to their homes. If a child cannot return to their home, Children and Family Services works for permanency on behalf of the child, into a home that will maintain the child’s connection to their family and Choctaw traditions. Children and Family Services is asking for your help in becoming a foster parent. Please contact our office for further information on how you can help us or complete a foster care application and submit it to our office.
