Documents of Governance

The sovereignty of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians has been preserved through a combination of treaties, congressional acts and Supreme Court rulings. A democratic form of Tribal government, similar to state governments, was established under the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, which authorized Tribes to exercise their rights of self-government through the election of representatives.
