01.08.08		Melba Smith Sworn in as Peacemaker
		A swearing in ceremony was held January 8, 2008, during Tribal Council meeting to appoint Melba Smith as the Peacemaker Judge for the Choctaw Tribal Courts. Ms. Smith is a Pearl River resident. Her parents were Frank Bell Sr. and Ivenia Bell. She is married to Roger Smith and has 2 daughters, Priscilla Wahwasuck and Vanessa Smith and seven grandchildren. >> More

		A groundbreaking ceremony was held November 29, 2007, at the site for the new Red Water Elementary School located off Hwy 35N in the Red Water Community in Leake County. 		The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians hosted the First Annual Choctaw Tribal Housing Summit on October 10-11, 2007, at the Choctaw Hospitality Institute located on the Pearl River Reservation in Choctaw, Miss. 		Miko Beasley Denson, the third Chief of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians since the adoption of their modern Constitution in 1945, was one of six new leaders honored by the Mississippi Economic Council at their August meeting.
