Mississippi Choctaws Participate in Inaugural Ceremonies

CHOCTAW, Miss. – (January 17, 2008) – On January 15, 2008, a delegation from the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians participated in the Governor’s Inaugural Ceremonies in the capitol city. The theme of this year’s ceremonies was “’08 Moving Forward Together.”

The Tribe’s parade float featured Tribal Council members and the Happy Feet Dance Group. In addition, Miko Denson and his family and the 2007-2008 Choctaw Indian Princess Kristen Dawn Tubby also represented the Tribe during the parade, which was held in downtown Jackson.

“It was an honor to represent our Tribe in the Capitol City. I had a great opportunity to meet with our new state officials and I look forward to meeting with each one of them in the future to further outline our priorities,” said Tribal Miko Beasley Denson. “I’d also like to thank all the tribal members who participated in the festivities. I think our Tribe was very well represented by our delegation.”

Prior to the Parade a swearing-in ceremony was held for Governor Haley Barbour on the South Steps of the New Capitol building. Newly elected state officials were also introduced to attendees.

Miko Denson represented the Tribe during the ceremony, where he was a special platform guest of newly-elected State Senator Giles Ward.
