to be essential tot he economic development initiatives of the Mississippi
Band of Chocttaw Indians, providing much of the labor force training needed
by the tribal enteprises and the tribal government, includeing the tribal
schools and health care systems. As direct result of this strong, collaborative
effort, the vocational education program is a direct contributor to the
dramatic improvements seen in the health and socioeconomic status of tribal
members.
The primary objective of vocational education is

Since 1995, the Choctaw Vocational and Employment
Services Program was established in response to the need to train and
find permanent employment for two (2) categories of unemployed tribal
members.
First, those participants with the skills and ability
to enter into competitive employment and benefit from education and training.
The program then using a case management approach matches tribal members
by interest and need to reservation employer's labor market needs. Participants
are placed with employers willing to permit time-off for the participants
in training and educational programs. Upon g successful completion of
vocational, techinical, and on-the-job training the participants will
be able to move into permanent full-time employment.
Second, those participants whose disabilities and
health prohibit their likely success in regular employment or training
will be placed in a program of simple life and work skills training, using
case management approach. For this special program population, a structured
program of work consistent with their capabilities will be developed.
Those participants will receive a range of counseling, medical, social
work and follow-up services in order to remain on a job. This population
benefits from placement in a sheltered work setting.
