Choctaw Housing Authority
For Tribal Members Within a Fifty-mile
Radius
The
Choctaw Housing Authority provides five different services
to the Tribal member: general maintenance, emergency maintenance,
housing placement, resident services and the Drug Elimination Program.
Although office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m to 4:30
p.m., the best time to call for general maintenance is between 4 and
4:30 p.m. weekdays. If an emergency arises after working hours or
on weekends, call the Choctaw Police Department (601-656-5711) and
an on-call person will be paged.
When applying for housing placement, it is important to note the
eligibility requirements for each of the four programs (Mutual Help,
Home, Rental and Elderly/Handicapped/Disabled) differ. It is best
to fill out applications at the Housing Authority to determine which
program each applicant is eligible for. After determination of eligibility,
the applicant will be placed on a waiting list. Applicant is expected
to notify the Housing Placement office of any changes in the information
provided on his or her application. Resident Services include training
on Housing and Urban Development services and the Choctaw Tribal
Leasing and Ordinances services. Information on care and maintenance
of the home or rental property, insurance, accounts receivable,
counseling, money management and budgeting is also offered to interested
persons.
Referral services through the Choctaw, Neshoba County and Mississippi
agencies are important to the project and recipients. Cooperation
is appreciated in achieving the goal of affordable housing in good
condition for all eligible persons.

.Drug Elimination
Program
The Drug Elimination Program exists to attack the causes
and conditions of substance and inhalant abuse among assisted housing
residents. In addition, as part of a comprehensive drug elimination
effort to reduce the use of substance and inhalant abuse, the program
continually creates and coordinates ongoing programs to bring abuse-specific
services to residents. To this end, the program provides community-wide
awareness through organized support and self-help groups.
