Choctaw Department of Employment & Training

The Choctaw Employment and Training Program provides necessary services to meet the needs of Native Americans preparing to enter, reenter or retain unsubsidized employment.

The department coordinates with local and state employment agencies including local community colleges and private training institutions recruiting Native Americans in all 82 counties of Mississippi as a prime sponsor under the JTPA program and Native American works program and the Welfare-to-Work program.

The purpose of Employment and Training is to support employment and training activites for American Indians in order:

(A) to develop more fully the academic, occupational, and literacy skills of the individuals
(B) to make the individual more competitive in the workforce; and
(C) to promote the economic and social development of Indian communities in accordance with the goals and values of the communities.

Person must be Native American and either unemployed, or underemployed, or low income.

Workforce Investment Act (Adult Services)

The Workforce Investment Act Officially replaced the Job Training Partnership Act on July 1, 2000.

The purpose of the Act is to provide Workforce Investment activities that increase the employment retention and earnings of participants and increase occupational skill attainment.

Workforce Investment Act (Supplemental Youth Services)

Supplemental Services Program provide a wide variety of services suitable to in-school and out-of-school youth, including summer employment, educational enrichment and leadership development.

Persons must be Native American between 14-21 and low income.

Native Employment Works

The Native Employment Works Program's purpose is to provide services that prepare TANF recipients to be self-reliant, self-sufficient and to become employment ready.

Native Employment Works Program linkage system allow services to be provided to customers certifying as unemployed, enderemployed or economically disadvantaged.

Welfare-to-Work

The purpose fo the Welfare-to-Work program:

(A) Facilitate the placement of hard-to-employ welfare recipients and certain non-custodial parents into transitional employment opportunities which will lead to lasting unsubsidized employment and self-sufficiency;
(B) To provide a variety of activities grounded in TANF's "Work First" philosophy, to prepare individuals for, and to place them in lasting unsubsidized employment;
(C) To provide for a variety of post-employment and job retention services which will assist the hard-to-employ welfare recipients and certain non-custodial parents to secure lasting unsubsidized employment.

Tribal Revenue Support Service

Supportive services are provided to participants to enable them to succeed in the program or make the transition from unemployed to employed without interruptions.
