Tribal Lands
The Choctaw people have had a presence in most of what is now Mississippi and west Alabama for more than 400 years. Through a series of treaties the Tribe ceded more than 25 million acres of its lands to the U.S. during the 1800s.
The Choctaw reservation has about 35,000 acres throughout state of Mississippi in ten counties. The communities are Pearl River, Red Water, Bogue Chitto, Standing Pine, Tucker, Conehatta, Crystal Ridge, and Bogue Homa. Additional acres can be found in Tennessee and the gulf coast.
