The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians operates the largest unified Reservation school system in the United States. Our progressive programs run the gamut from preschool and childcare to adult, vocational and post-secondary education.
Choctaw education extends from birth through late life, with services provided through community schools and an array of specialized educational programs. Historic educational neglect of Tribal members has not only imposed profound responsibilities, but has also created opportunities for development of exceptional educational systems. Choctaw education has become a critical element within the reservation communities, serving to support successful Tribal government, economic growth and individual self-worth.
Early Childhood Programs
DOECE offers comprehensive child development programs designed to provide a broad range of services to children prenatal to 5 years old, their families, and the community. The programs are a partnership between staff and families that makes the best use of everyone's talents, skills, and resources to benefit the children. We are committed to the principles that parents are the first and most important teacher of children. Our goal is to provide children and families quality early childhood services and facilities including: medical, dental, nutritional, mental health, cultural, language and social needs, while we help the child learn. We encourage children to become problem solvers, decision makers, and critical thinkers by providing them with skilled teacher, resources and technology rich classrooms, and an environment that encourages exploration. DOECE recognizes the valuable contributions and support of all community partnerships including: Tribal leadership, Tribal enterprises, and Community Service Agencies.
Choctaw Tribal Schools
The Choctaw Tribal School System has six elementary schools, one middle school and one boarding high school on the Choctaw Indian Reservation in east central Mississippi. The Choctaw schools are scattered over a four-county area and serve more than 1,700 students. It is the largest unified and locally-controlled Indian school system in the country.
